What have you always imagined your wedding to be like? Did you dream of having an outdoor wedding or an indoor one? Whenever you pictured yourself getting married, did you imagine the setting where it would all take place? Did you consider Maine? As it gets closer to time for your wedding planning to begin, one of the first things you’ll be thinking about is where you want to have your wedding.

Have you ever thought about getting married in a barn?

It’s not as crazy as it sounds! In Buxton, Maine, is The Barn at Flanagan Farm, just a twenty-minute drive away from Portland. The barn itself has been restored over the years since it was originally built in the 1800s. The best part about this barn is that it’s open year-round, so you can have your wedding here, no matter what season it is!

Stretching across 66 acres, the Flanagan Farm has two fully restored barns on the property. Because it’s open year-round—and hosts events year-round as well—each barn is specifically customized to deal with any type of weather, regardless of whether it’s the heat in summer or the cold in winter. They specialize in making sure guests stay warm and cozy in winter and cool and fresh in spring and summer.

Outside the main barn and farmhouse is a beautiful, unadulterated pasture, which makes for the perfect backdrop for your wedding and aesthetically pleasing photos to look back on years from now.

Plenty of Space

They have over 2,400 square feet of space for entertaining guests and can have up to 250 guests at once. That leaves you plenty of options for your wedding, especially if you want a decent-sized guest list. Some of the best accommodations they have are an attached bar, already ready for your guests, separately powered sound systems, and extra lighting if you want it. Plus heating and cooling systems to keep your guests fresh no matter the weather situation.

The barn itself is a 900 square foot English-style barn, originally built in the 1800s. So it’s the perfect place to portal yourself back-in-time for your dream wedding. The barn has restrooms and a bluestone outdoor patio as well, and a firepit. It’s a must-have venue choice for anyone with a dream of a beautiful country wedding. The barn has a two-and-a-half-story vaulted ceiling and was restored in 2012. The state-of-the-art sound system is actually disguised into the barn’s rafters so that no one will notice it.

The wonderful acoustics the barn offers is a dream in itself. The barn is decorated with dragonfly-etched sconces and three sophisticated chandeliers for a warm, cozy feeling to set the mood. But that’s not all—the barn has a grand staircase that leads up into a cozy hayloft lounge located just above the bar and is furnished with a leather sofa, plush chairs, and a Turkish Kilim rug.

Rehearsal Dinners in Maine

If you want to have a good rehearsal dinner, they have a secondary barn made in 2015 with 900 square feet of extra entertaining space. This is perfect for a rehearsal dinner or to host small gatherings anytime during your stay leading up to your wedding.

They also have a house that sleeps up to ten people. You and your wedding party can stay overnight if you choose to.  65 cars can be parked outside. As long as the music ends by 10:30 pm and your guests leave by 11:00 pm, you can have this beautiful place to yourself. If you want to stay later, you can pay an extra small fee. Then you can continue your wedding until 12:30 am, with guests allowed to stay all the way until 1:00 am.
